Research shows many benefits to mindfulness:

How do we learn mindfulness?

We learn mindfulness the same way we learn how to dribble a basketball or ride a bike, we practice. Mindfulness practice is as simple as setting a present moment intention, noticing when your attention has wandered, and then returning your attention to your intention. The more we practice mindfulness, the more we'll see the positive effects it has on our lives. Guided meditations can be helpful and so can the guidance & support of a qualified teacher or coach. Why do adolescents & teens need to learn mindfulness?

Most of us now live surrounded by an ever-expanding wealth of information.  Adolescents & teens today are faced with more distractions and more stressors than any generation before them has had to deal with. In our world today, depression is now the world's leading cause of disease & anxiety is pervasive. According to the American Psychological Association (APA), teens report experiences with stress that follow a similar pattern as adults, and at times report higher rates of stress than any other age group. Mindfulness practice is an invaluable resource for helping teens & adolescents develop essential skills for navigating modern life.

Can we teach mindfulness to children?

Absolutely! Mindfulness practice strengthens essential foundational skills that all children need to navigate the world today. Mindfulness is essential for developing emotional regulation, attentional control, & stress management. Mindfulness can also help kids cultivate joy, curiosity, empathy, & organizational skills.

What if my child has been diagnosed with ADHD? Can they learn mindfulness?

Yes! In fact, studies show that mindfulness meditation enhances performance on executive functioning tasks, such as attention, working memory, and cognitive control — evidence supporting the idea that mindfulness training is a relevant and helpful practice for children and youngsters with ADHD.

What role does mindfulness play within anti-racism & social justice?

Wise action is required for dismantling systemic racism. Mindfulness is crucial for cultivating wise action. We need mindfulness in order for us see the world as it truly is, here and now, rather than seeing our world as we might imagine it to be. Only once we see our world as it truly is can we take wise action toward creating the world as it should be. Mindfulness is also the essential tool that we need in our toolbox so that we can examine our inner worlds and do the inner work of anti-racism. Any activism that does not include our own inner work is incomplete.

How does mindfulness help us live more fully?

Thriving in our lives requires us to know our needs and meet them. Mindfulness empowers us to do both as we  build a fulfilling life. In order to live our fullest and truest life we have six core psychosocial needs that are rooted in our neurobiology: Connection, Feeling, Awareness, Insight, Purpose, and Accomplishment. Mindfulness empowers us to more effectively cultivate all six.
